Google Now Launcher & Notifications

Sometime shortly after I finally got the 6.0.1 update from AT&T I got an option to switch from Touch Wiz to a stock Google Launcher. That gave me the landscape rotation on my home screen and scrolling app list that wasn't in Touch Wiz but was part of the Marshmallow update.

The problem is I stopped getting the little number notifications next to my app icons. So Messages and Voice Mail for instance don't show me that I have a message to check. I can't figure out anywhere to turn that on...
