Why can't Android have multiple bluetooth connections with audio devices?

I have had both iOS and Android devices over the last 9 years and one thing that is vastly different between the 2 operating systems is multiple Bluetooth connectivity. In iOS or iPhone I have had up to 4 devices connected all at once on all my iPhones from the 3gs to the 6s.

Here is in example. While I am work I use an LG Tone platinum which is connected to my iPhone 6s (personal) and iPhone 6 (work) I would also pair my 6s with my Bose soundlink mini II and I could switch back and forth...
