best app for IRC direct messenger?

I use Pidgin on desktop and used to use Trillian for android to connect to AIM to talk to my family.

Now AIM is shut down and IRC was the only protocol we could get working with Pidgin. Unfortunately Trillian doesn't support IRC accounts.

What is the best app to use if I just want to send direct, instant messages via the IRC freenode network?

I installed a few but they were all full-on IRC clients - I need a messenger, not an IRC client. And sadly Pidgin has no mobile app.
