YouTube doesn't auto hide on screen buttons

When I use YouTube in my Google Pixel phone it doesn't matter if I'm using it in portrait or full screen landscape mode, the on screen buttons (IE < = > etc) never go away. They sit there huge and prominent and block the screen. They never auto hide and it's incredibly annoying and bothersome. They always disappear on every other phone I use and I sell phone so I go through a LOT of phones.
