Moto Z Force Update on 02/13/18 deleted my photos...

I just did the latest system update on my Moto Z Force and just checked my photos to see that about 80% of them are now gone. Almost 2 years of photos/memories gone. And NO I do not have the Cloud because I wasn't going to pay for something I can back up myself. And I just said to myself the other day I should back up my phone's photos up on an external hard drive... Verizon can't help me. Its time for a new phone anyways, PIXEL 2 XL added to cart. This just really sucks to go through hoping...
