New phone for Verizon before contract is up

I have a Samsung S5 right now that is having issues with some of the software. I'd like to upgrade my phone but it is still a few months away from being able to upgrade through Verizon. I am looking into buying a new phone (Galaxy S7 or Droid Turbo 2 most likely) off E bay and activating it but wondered what I need to look at to make sure that it is compatible because I believe Verizon runs on different radio waves. Any credible information on what I need to look for is appreciated.
