Questions about Quick charging/USB-C

Hey everyone, sorry for the n00b post. I've been an iPhone user for the past 7 years and just switched teams and got a Samsung Galaxy S8, so this is a whole new world for me. So much to learn!

I have a newer car with two USB ports. I was always able to just plug my lightning cable into the ports and charge my iPhone that way, without having an actual car charger. I tried this with the cable included with my S8 and it would charge, but not fast charge. Is there a reason for this? Do I need...
