Problems getting adoptable storage working on S7 Edge (AT&T)

Hey folks,
I am trying to get the adoptable storage working on a new S7 Edge which is all patched up to the latest versions of Marshmallow (at least those released by AT&T).

I go through the ADB process as described on multiple forums and when issuing the sm partition command, it immediately comes back, no delay, no errors, and the SD still shows as portable.
