how to move onscreen buttons to the left???

In android 4.x.x. The onscreen buttons for tablets are in the center of the screen. In landscape mode, this is really annoying as I have to shift my grip every time I want to hit on e of the buttons. I would much rather the buttons be on the left so I could tap them with my left thumb, just like on honeycomb tablets.

I'm reluctant to root my new tablet and don't really want to install custom roms but I'm open to all suggestions, thanks.
