LG V20 or Wait for the Note 8?

I was on the verge of buying the Note 7 -- via Sprint using my 24 month re-up discount (disappointing specs and exploding Notes be damned) -- until Samsung took the decision out of my hands entirely. My Galaxy S5 is feeling awfully tiny, slow and old these days, so I'm itching to upgrade. But is the Note 8 going to deliver where the Note 7 fell short?
