Can't copy data from old to new phone

I have a MotoG 4G LTE phone and have just bought a dual sim MotoG 3rd gen. Neither are rooted. I tried rooting the MotoG 3rd gen with Kingoo but it failed.
I am first trying to copy all of my data and contacts etc over and for whatever reason this seems impossible to do. I've got my contacts in using Rerware's MyBackup Pro, but the SMS's won't copy for come reason.
Can anyone suggest the best backup tool to use to ensure that my data is copied over?
