HTC Desire 530 - Nougat Update

Hi, a carrier from the US released the nougat update for my phone model. I currently live in Australia and my phone is locked to Telstra. I really want the nougat update and was wondering how i would go about this.

Would it work to unlock my phone and flash a rom from HTC itself and would that give me the update or no, please help me as I would really like the features it provides.

My phone is a HTC Desire 530 locked by Telstra AU running Android Marshmallow 6.0.1
