How do you get Huawei P10 Plus to accept external microphone while recording video?

I have a Samson Go Mic Mobile that y wife uses to record videos. It works fine with my Sony and her old Nexus but will not on Huawei. Checking online, I have found several places that say Huawei disables external mics with the camera. Is this true and if so, how do you turn it back on?
