Notifications - coming from longtime iPhone user

Hi - I have been an IOS user for 10 years - just bought my first Android phone - S8 plus.

I am new to Android - and I cannot get my notifications setup correctly on the lock screen. They show up on the AOD - but only an icon - if I get a new email / whatsapp - just the icon shows up - I then need to push the power button in order for it to go to the next screen that shows my notification and a preview.

If my phone is locked - the notification also does not pop up - I just hear the sound....
