Google calendar notifications don't stop.

Hi
I am using Google calendar on my s8 as the stock calendar appeared to be a stripped down version of its prior one on my s5.
Now, when I get notifications on my lock screen, they fade away and keep reoccurring until I dismiss it by sliding the X to the side. This wears down the battery, etc. It appears that others are having the same issue. I tried different fixes but nothing has helped.
Any suggestions?
