Zenpad S 8 extremely slow and laggy?

I have an Asus Zenpad S 8, the 32gb model, that came out in 2015. I got mine in November, and when I first got it, it was great. However, I had noticed it was getting laggy and glitchy after I finally got the Marshmallow update late last year. I ended up getting an ipad mini, but sometimes I still prefer an Android, so I dug this one back out.

Since it hadn't been used since March, I did a factory reset, let it update fully, and the lag seems even more pronounced. It takes several seconds...
