Asus ZenPad Z10 Won't Update to Nougat

Had the Z10 for about a month and found out that the Nougat update is available. Everything on the tablet works great, but when I hit check for updates button it says "can't connect, sorry we had trouble checking for system updates.......". Verizon says check with Asus, Asus says use my computer and download "update assistant". My wife has a Z8 and hers updated over wifi with no problem. I've done a full reset and that didn't help. Any ideas?
