Honor 6a frozen screen

My mom's new honor 6a phone is frozen in the messenger screen. No button works. It doesn't ring if called.
When she gets home I'll try to force a reset, but it's the second time it happens in a few months. The clerk at a store told her it could be a problem with the sd card being too old or slow, could that be it? Thank you in advance.
