Firmware updates on old phone

I'm currently have Samsung G Note 5 as my actual "phone", and I receive all of the firmware updates through my carrier.
However, I still use my old phone (G note 3) at home to web surf, and to cast videos. although it's no longer connected to the carrier, I'd still like to get the latest firmware updates available. is there a way that I can do this?
