can't tap on Messenger messages??

Hi all
I just got a second hand OPO and it's been great, an upgrade to my less then adequate P8 Lite.
The only problem is that when I am using Facebook messenger I cannot tap on a sent message and see "seen at so and so" or the time it was sent.
Anyone had this problem before?
