Galaxy S8: Moisture detected in charging port - possible solution

Friend called me a week back asking if I know the solution to this problem. To resolve something like this, you first need to understand what could be causing it.
I looked around and couldn't find anything that was helpful. Anyway, he got back to me the other day and told me that after removing the soft TPU case from the phone, the problem went away. Apparently moisture was building up inside the case and spreading to the phones ports.
