Phone list spreadsheet to upload?

Hi- I can't find this topic- sorry for any duplication. How can I upload a phone list Excel spreadsheet to Android. Is it csv format- how would I do this? I know there are transfer protocols from phone to phone- but I want to start with a created master phone-name-email list file. Also- the home phone, office, cell differences- there must be a tag for those, etc. Thanx in advance.
