Contacts dissapearing

My dad has a Moto 4G (2016), which he transferred from a 2013 model.

All has been ok until recently when he added some contacts and found after a few minutes (or hours), the contacts disappeared. They had previously saved and were being displayed as he checked.

I did a test by adding new contacts and the same thing happened. They saved, showed in the contacts list, but then about 45 mins later, they disappeared.
