Phone not recognizing sim

I have a verizon LG vista. It is unlocked and when I insert a us cellular sim it does not recognize it but does configure itself to uscellulars network and I have internet but cannot make calls. Verizon said it sounds like a bad sim but I have tried others and still the same thing. Any help on this would be appreciated.
